Powerball Goes International This Month: What the UK Launch Means for Bigger Jackpots
Powerball is about to do something it has never done before: go international.
Beginning July 21, 2026, players in the United Kingdom will be able to buy Powerball tickets through The UK National Lottery. Their first shared jackpot drawing lines up with the U.S. Powerball drawing on Wednesday, July 22 at 10:59 PM Eastern, which lands in the early hours of Thursday morning in the UK.
For the first time, a non-U.S. lottery will contribute to the same Powerball jackpot pool that players in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands chase. More players. Same number matrix. Same U.S. ticket price. Same jackpot odds.
What Actually Changes on July 21
The core Powerball game is not being redesigned. U.S. players still pick five white balls from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball from 1 to 26. Drawings still happen Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from the Florida studio. The U.S. base ticket remains $2.
The jackpot odds also stay the same: 1 in 292.2 million.
What changes is the pool of people feeding the jackpot. UK players will buy into the same shared jackpot, while using a separate lower-tier prize structure for non-jackpot wins. If nobody wins, the jackpot should climb faster because more tickets are contributing to the top prize.
That does not make any individual ticket more likely to hit the jackpot. It does make future rollovers more dramatic.
This is exactly the kind of shift the LuckMaker Score is built to track. A game can have unchanged odds and still become more interesting when the jackpot growth curve changes, ticket volume changes, or split risk changes. Bigger jackpots are only one part of the picture.
Bigger Jackpots, Same Odds, Higher Split Risk
More UK participation can help Powerball jackpots build faster. But when more people play, more combinations are covered in each drawing. That can raise the chance that if the jackpot is hit, more than one ticket shares it.
The odds printed on the ticket do not change. Your chance of matching all six numbers is still 1 in 292.2 million. But the broader drawing environment changes around you. A $900 million jackpot with a global player base may attract a very different ticket-sales profile than a $300 million jackpot did a few years ago.
That is why number selection still matters. You cannot overcome long odds, but you can avoid crowded patterns: birthdays only, neat diagonals, repeating lucky numbers, and obvious sequences. The Lucky Number Generator gives you clean random picks without leaning into the combinations millions of other people tend to choose.
If you win, you want to win alone.
The Timing Is Interesting
Powerball is already sitting at $457 million for tonight's July 11 drawing, with Mega Millions rolling to $637 million for July 14. The recent LuckMaker posts have covered that dual-jackpot surge, so the new story is not just "big jackpot is big."
If tonight's Powerball drawing produces a winner, the UK launch starts with a smaller reset jackpot. If the jackpot survives, UK players could enter during a much larger prize run. Either way, July 21 becomes a date future jackpot watchers will care about.
Before buying into any large drawing, check the current Powerball results and compare the live LuckMaker Score. LuckMaker tracks 98 games across 25 U.S. states and 9 international markets, so national headlines are only part of the board.
The Tax Question Gets Weirder
U.S. Powerball jackpots are advertised before taxes. UK advertised jackpot figures are expected to be presented differently, with their own tax and payout rules. A headline number in dollars and a headline number in pounds may not be directly comparable.
For U.S. players, nothing about federal or state tax treatment changes just because UK players join the pool. A U.S. winner still needs to think through lump sum versus annuity, federal withholding, and state taxes. The Lottery Tax Calculator is the right first stop.
For UK players, the important detail is that jackpot prizes are expected to be paid over 30 years, with UK-specific rules around advertised amounts and lower-tier prizes. Same jackpot pool, different local experience.
How to Play This Shift
Check the LuckMaker Score before you buy. Use the Lucky Number Generator if you want random numbers without obvious crowd patterns. After the draw, check results and store the ticket in Ticket Vault so a small prize does not disappear in a jacket pocket.
And pay attention to July 21.
Powerball going international does not make the game easy. It does make the next era of jackpots more interesting. Faster-growing prizes, more global participation, unchanged U.S. odds, and potentially higher split pressure all point in the same direction: the headline numbers may get louder, but the smartest players will keep looking underneath them.
That is where LuckMaker lives.
